It is gratifying when people acknowledge what the LEAP team have done to increase the food supply and generally upgrade and maintain the green spaces in the Horsefair/Greenhill/Town Centre areas of Kidderminster. Local people in pubs and shops have made their approval known to LEAP volunteers, people frequently stop by to talk to members of our weekly work parties and congratulate us on our efforts. At the weekend a District Council worker for the parks department told us that of all the parks and green spaces across Wyre Forest St George's park is one of the best looked after, largely thanks to the efforts of the Friends group, particularly the LEAP team. He also commented positively on us growing edibles and told us that he thinks all parks should follow our lead. All this is great to hear, good feedback like this from the people who live and work in the area means a lot to those who give their time and energies to the project. It's good to see people picking herbs, fruit and vegetables increasingly now as they become available. One of the lessons of LEAP for all of us really but particularly many of the children involved is not only where food comes from in the first place but also its seasonal nature. Part of the LEAP mission is to offer people opportunities to reconnect with nature, as an essential part of promoting wellbeing and engagement thereby maximising the health benefits of urban green spaces. Linking up with the seasonal nature of community gardening is an important part of whatever green therapy people derive from involvement in and engagement with Let's Eat the Park. Here are some images of developments in St George's park free food project as they stood during the work party on 25th July 2015.
