Rivaling that other local Wyre Forest attraction West Midlands Safari Park, St George's Park Kidderminster is home to the incredibly rare chutney hedge giraffe whose numbers in the wild are estimated to be no more than - one.
It's strange what we sometimes find in the park. People leave behind evidence of almost every function of modern life. Today' s finds include a Blackberry mobile phone (reported to the police) a toy car and a plastic giraffe discovered hiding in the chutney hedge. Despite its camouflage the said giraffe was spotted by a sharp-eyed LEAP work party removing unwanted additions to the hedge including a viciously barbed self-seeded acacia, a rogues gallery of opportunist interlopers including buddleia and various weeds, which may only be plants in the wrong place - but ones not welcome in our chutney hedge now entering its fourth year and the oldest part of the Let's Eat the Park project. Rivaling that other local Wyre Forest attraction West Midlands Safari Park, St George's Park Kidderminster is home to the incredibly rare chutney hedge giraffe whose numbers in the wild are estimated to be no more than - one. Besides discovering rare objects the work party cleared half the chutney hedge between the nursery gates and the kissing gate on Coventry Street removing 7 barrow loads of weeds and misplaced shrubs. It was great to see the first signs of Spring in the park today including the first violets and snowdrops as well as some early growth of LEAP edibles like onions, garlic and hazelnuts. Here are a few pictures of what is appearing in the park on the last day of January 2015.
