The next group meeting will take place this Friday (4th May) 7-8pm at Rainbow Childrens Centre, Radford Avenue, Kidderminster, DY10 2ES. All are welcome I'm sure you will all agree that our 'St. George's Weekend in the Park' event held on Saturday 21st April was a major success. There were all types of free activities and attractions alongside music and dance performances. With only 1 major downpour at the end we were also quite lucky with the weather! We received many positive comments about the day, particularly the live music, so we are keen to look at organising another live music event. Keep an eye on the website for more details. Below is a range of photographs taken on the day showing the activities, musicians and attractions. Thanks to everyone who supported the event. We have a lot to live up to next year! Free Community fun day in George's Park this Saturday. It really has something for all of the family - Loads to see and do including: Viking Re-enactment Camp FREE Face Painting FREE Bouncy Castles FREE Childrens Crafts Dance Performances Charity Table Top Sale Live Music (all types!) Falconry Display Wood Carving BBQ The next group meeting will be on Friday 13th April, 7-8pm at Rainbow Childrens Centre, Radford Avenue, Kidderminster, DY10 2ES. All welcome! On Thursday 29th March work started on preparing the ground for the Wildflower Meadow. After consulting with the group, Wyre Forest District Council agreed to prepare the land without using any herbicides. You will see that they have stripped the turf from 2 large seed bed areas whilst leaving a path through the middle from the new gate.
The Wildflower seeds used to plant the area will be a mix of grasses and wildflowers that have been harvested from a number of donor sites across Worcestershire & Shropshire. The meadows from which the seed is harvested include sites of special scientific interest. The mix will include some of our most beautiful and delicate native grasses, including Sweet vernal grass and Crested dog's-tail. Among the wildflowers you will find in it are Meadow Buttercup, Ox-eye Daisy, Knapweed, Red Clover, Agrimony, and Yellow Rattle. The company supplying the seed donate half of the profit on sales of this seed mix to ’Habitat Aid’. The Meadow area will be a great feature in the park, once established it will look stunning and it will provide a much needed native habitat for insects, butterflies and birds. Special thanks to Wyre Forest District Council who have organised the ground preparation and the sowing. We are holding our 3rd annual community fun day on Saturday 21st April 2012. It will run 11am - 3pm and will feature the usual attractions that have proved to be popular such as BBQ, free Bouncy Castles (2 this year!) and free face painting. Last year we added the charity table top sale which proved to be very successful so we have expanded this and this year will have even more tables. This year will be our biggest and best event yet with a performance area for local musicians and poets - if you are interested in taking part please visit let us know. So far confirmed we have the Severnside Strummers Ukulele Association - more to be added soon. We also have ‘Svartland’ who are a Viking and Saxon historical interpretation group who re-create the lifestyles of the Viking and Anglo-Saxon peoples of the 8th - 11th Century. You can look around their tents, talk to them and watch one of their demonstrations of Viking Age combat. The event will also feature various organisations who are working in the area. You will have the chance to find out about the BIGHBG which is the £1 Million Big Local Trust funding that is coming into the area - you will be able to tell them how you would spend the money! There will also be UnLtd which is a charity that supports social entrepreneurs - people with vision, drive, commitment and passion who want to change the world for the better. UnlLtd want to support individuals in Horsefair, Broadwaters and Greenhill by providing both financial and non-financial support so that they can develop solutions to need in the community. So if you have a great idea about how to make your community a better place come and chat to UnLtd about making it a reality! This event really does have something for everyone so we hope to see you there
On Friday 9th March we held a Ceremonial Tree Planting at St. George's Park and Baxter Gardens. We were pleased to welcome the Mayor who along with young people from St. Marys and St. Ambrose School helped plant an Indian Bean Tree in St. George's Park and a Hornbeam in Baxter Gardens. Both trees are to mark the Queen's Jubilee and in the case of the Indian Bean Tree it was to replace 2 trees that were originally planted in St. George's Park to mark the Coronation of George VI in 1937. Thanks to everyone who came down to support us and to Wyre Forest District Council for providing the trees and for preparing the planting areas. More photos below | |||||||
