On Friday 16th December approximately 35 people joined us for our annual 'Carols & Mince Pies in the Park'. It was great to come together as a community and sing some festive carols and enjoy mulled wine, hot mulled fruit juice, hot chocolate, warm mince pies and chocolates. Spike did a great job of decorating the youth hut with rope lights and candles and Sue had the unenviable task of being choirmaster. It was a very cold evening but that didn't seem to dampen the spirits and even if we say so ourselves we sounded like a choir of angels..... It was good to see new faces along with group members and local residents at the event. Thanks to everyone who came down and supported us. If you didn't make this one please put the next’s years date in your diary - Friday 14th December 2012 Please see our facebook page for more comments and pictures The following article was posted on the Kidderminster Shuttle website at 7.40am on Tuesday 13th December. Wyre Forest District Council is looking to make a splash with its budget proposals for 2012/13. An area where the council is considering spending money is on the district’s paddling pools. Budget proposals announced this week by district council leader, Conservative councillor John Campion have set aside £300,000 to create “splash parks”. He said: “This area enjoys its paddling pools. We will be considering what to do with them and making funds available to turn two of the pools into splash parks.” The parks will be larger pools with water jets. “It’s all part of thinking about things differently and in terms of supporting the community,” added Mr Campion, “They’re fun and children like to play in the jet water.” The council is yet to decide where the splash parks will be and when they will be introduced. By William Tomaney This story is also covered by Tav on the Wyre Forest Agenda We are pleased to announce that 2 new benches have been fitted in the park. They are situated in the old bench bays along the Radford Avenue boundary. Our group received funding from Fairways Tenants Consultative Committee, which is a tenants group of Wyre Forest Community Housing, and we contributed this towards the purchase of the 2 benches. Wyre Forest District Council has supported the project by fitting them. The 2 benches have commemorative plaques fitted with one reading "Fairways Tenants Consultative Committee, October 2011" and the other "Friends of St. George's Park, October 2011". These benches are a great addition and will allow even more people to stop and enjoy the park - Enjoy! Notes from the meeting held on Friday 2nd December are now available to download.
Please note that the next meeting will be held on Friday 13th January 7-8pm at the Red Man Inn, Blackwell Street.
St George's Church has a couple of events they want to promote in the run up to Christmas. Firstly there is a series of 'Open for Advent' mornings at the Church. They are all on Saturday mornings and you are invited to call in so you can 'relax, reflect and remember' whilst enjoying a free Fairtrade hot chocolate, tea or coffee.
The other event is a visit by the Worcester Cathedral Chamber Choir on Saturday 10th December. Details of both events are available on the posters above. Enjoy! |
