We were first altered to the theft when a concerned community member posted a message on our facebook page. Thanks for all of the comments of support we have received since.
Councillor Tracey Onslow, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Community Well-being said, “This is a mindless crime that has deprived visitors to St George’s Park of a much loved sculpture. It saddens me to think that someone could do this. It is particularly upsetting for The Friends Group which works closely with the district Council, as we know how hard they’re working there. We would appeal to anyone who knows anything about the theft to contact West Mercia Police or simply return the owl. “
Spike Betterton, Chair, spoke on behalf of the group saying: “We are gutted. This was paid for from extra money raised by the group. The Owl was loved by all that visited the park and it was going to be a central focus for our new ‘Urban Wildlife Project’. I expect the base will now have to be removed which is a shame as this is now one less thing in the park.”
This set back will not deter our group from continuing to improve the Park for the majority of the community. Please continue to support us!
If you have any information on the whereabouts of the Owl please contact West Mercia Police 0300 333 300, Wyre Forest District Council 01562 732928 or let us know.
