We all realise as a group that this will be a hard act to follow, but we are determined to make this year's St George's Day in the park even better than last year.
We are currently discussing with the District Council how the park will feature in the....
Arts Festival ...
we will have more details on that in the coming weeks and months as the plans unfold. Another project supported by FoSGP is the planned 'heritage trail' which celebrates the history of the park since it was given to the people of Kidderminster by the carpet manufacturing families in July 1927. There'll be more on that project in the near future. The FoSGP initiative we are calling 'Let's Eat the Park' took another step forward with the provision of more fruit trees from WFDC Parks Department for which we are most grateful. The District Council has worked closely with the group to help us develop this project to make St George's Park more edible by increasing the stock of fruit bearing trees and shrubs. This is very much a work in progress, but we are hoping to further roll out our park eating plan throughout 2014 and beyond.
Another project that FoSGP and WFDC are currently organising is the replanting of the wildflower meadow and themed wildflower borders around the whole park this year. We are pleased with the results of the planting last year along the railings of Radford Avenue and also on the corner of Coventry Street by the kissing gate and plan to extend the wildflowers to all the plantable boundaries of the park.
Other changes to the layout of benches and picnic areas are also currently being discussed with WFDC, why not join in and add your voice?.
If you have any suggestions about ways of improving and upgrading the park please leave your comments in the box below.
We are presently a small group of volunteers who are involved in FoSGP. Our meetings usually held on the first Friday of each month with an open membership and attended by a variety of people including officers and councillors of Wyre Forest District Council, elected members of Worcestershire County Council, members of the Community Safety Partnership and other interested parties. FoSGP meet at the Co-Operative Childcare Centre, on the corner of Radford Avenue and Coventry Street opposite St George's church. We are fortunate that Co-Op Childcare, another organisation to which we owe our gratitude, hosts our monthly meetings which start at 7pm and finish at 8.30pm. Co-Op staff also volunteer their time to give their support to FoSGP meetings and events, so a big thanks to them from the Friends.
All interested people are very welcome to come along and meet us there.
There is always plenty to get involved with in the People's Park.
Our next meeting is Friday 7th February - 7pm Co-op Childcare Centre.... Coventry Street, DY10 2BP.
- thanks for reading this - hope to see you at FoSGP soon
