The trees will form a 'Chutney Hedge' and all of the fruits produced will be able to be used for jams, chutneys and cordials! They were obtained free of charge from the Woodland Trust. This planting forms part of our 'Urban Wildlife Meadow' project that will see the development of a Wildflower meadow in this corner of the park. During December we will also see the installation of a 'kissing gate' at the Coventry Street corner of the park to allow easy access to the park. This gate will be suitable for wheelchairs.
On Tuesday 15th November young people from St. George's Primary School came to the park and helped members of the group plant a native hedgerow consisting of Hazel, Blackthorn, Crab Apple, Elder & Dog Rose. 420 trees were planted along the wall near the Coventry Street corner of the park which, when established, will help return a significant part of the park back to native habitat for the wildlife.
